My name is Sharon Irving and I am a 34 year old woman who has been a nanny for 5+ years.  I became a nanny after leaving my professional career as an analyst for a high tech company.  I was with this company for almost 5 years.  Prior to this, I worked for Fidelity Investments and Lancôme Cosmetics after graduating from college.  I have been married now for almost 3 years and love being a wife to the man that I have spent the last 8 years of my life with.  We share a home with our "children", which consists of 2 dogs and 2 cats.  The reason for my career switch is because I wanted to learn more about children and the family dynamics involved with raising a family.  I first started out as a mothers assistant to 2 adorable new born twin boys and worked over 50+ hours per week, including overnights.  Read more I learned alot about newborns from their mother and was amazed at how well I fit into this environment.  It was alot different from the corporate environment of 7-6 pm and it was alot more rewarding in my eyes.  I was able to foster a fun, safe and comfortable environment for these 2 little boys and loved every minute of it.  I really enjoyed feeding times, changing diapers and taking them on long walks.  The most challenging situation in my experinece with newborns is when they cry, because they cannot tell you what is wrong with them.  When they cry, you have to assess the situation and try to pin point if they need to be fed, changed, if they or tired or etc.  I was with this family for 4 months and will always cherish this experience as I learned so much that I can use in the future to come.   My next nanny role was with the Green family in 2003 when the child was 3.5 years old.  He is an only child and was very shy when I became a part of his family.  The boy spoke very little and had a hard time expressing himself and in my eyes, this was my challenge and I was determined to get him to show his true colors.  It was hard at first because I had to get him to trust me and to get him to feel comfortable with me.  To win him over, I spent alot of time reading to him, getting him to do arts/crafts, taking him on outing to museums, to the library and most important, I started to get him involved in social outings with children of his own age.  To do this, I began to network with other nannies in the area and parents of children who attended his preschool and etc, as it was important that he played with his own peers, as they could also help him to come out of his "shell".  It was hard at first, as the child was resistant, but after awhile, he did began to show his personality and began to communicate his likes/dislikes.  I felt so honored to have been apart of helping this child develop his own personality and letting him know that it was okay to be different from other children, as long as he respected the fact that they are also different and there is nothing wrong with this, as everyone is unique.  It is so amazing with how much this child has changed in the past 3 years that I have been apart of his life and I feel so lucky to have been a part of this stage in helping him develop into the child that he is today.  The reason why I moved on from this position is because the child was going to school full time and the child care needs were changing to part time.  It was bittersweet to have to move on from this position, yet I did look forward to working with my new family, the McNealey's.        I began with the McNealey family in September 2006 and cared for Emma Grace who was 10 months old and Jack who was almost 3.  My daily primary care consisted of caring for both children on Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, as Jack was in preschool on Monday and Friday.  For each day of the week, I would schedule classes such as Music Together, gymnastics, toddler Time, weekly playgroups that met each child's age group, art classes, cooking classes and etc.  I consulted with their mother daily on each child's rouitne, in terms of meals consumed, nap times, moods/attitudes towards our acitvities (such as likes/dislikes) and etc.  I was reponsilbe for daily household management such as grocery shopping, post office, dry cleanning, laundry and weekly errands (a list was maintained as to what needed to be done during the week to keep the household running effectively). I enjoyed Jack's fun personality, as he always made me laugh.  He is a unique 4 year old with a creative outlook on life and had a tremendous desire to learn.  Emma is such a head strong toddler and loves to explore, which always kept me going and wanting for her to learn more about her surroundings.  I had alot of fun with these children and will treasure my time with them.   I made a one year commitment to this family and honored this commitment in September 2007.    I am full of creativity, energy and life.  I love each and every day and savor at least one positive experience that day to create loving memories of my child care experiences.  I really do love what I do and I am blessed to have had the experiences that I have had and look forward to creating many more fun, loving, memories with the family that needs me.
